After weeks of rumors and off-the-wall guesses from fans, Deadline reports that "300" and "Watchmen" director Zack Snyder gets to add another superhero movie on his resume: "Superman." The upcoming installment is rumored to be moving away from the commercially successful but otherwise fan-panned "Superman Returns," and is being guided creatively by Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas, parents of the hyper-successful "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight." Nolan and David S. Goyer, of "Blade" and "Batman Begins" fame, wrote the script for the as-yet unnamed "Superman" film. From Deadline:

"I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one," Snyder, who directed Watchmen and 300, told me. "It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it."

Snyder himself confirmed the news on his Twitter account late on Monday, tweeting the below image of Superman.

Considering that the director has just been announced, there is little to no factual information available regarding what the new "Superman" film will be about, who will star, or even whether or not it's a sequel or a complete reboot. Snyder has obviously seen some success with doing extremely faithful cinematic adaptations of comics, sometimes considered a detriment of the films, but his particularly effects-heavy style could be just what the "Superman" franchise needs after the somewhat po-faced "Superman Returns."
