2010 boasted healthy numbers for digital comics with comiXology breaking one million application downloads, but it looks like Archie Comics can boast an even heartier success story as its iVerse-powered application was reportedly downloaded more than 1.7 million times last year. The number of application downloads isn't necessarily an indication of overall digital sales, especially considering the amount of $0.99 titles and free, preview-oriented content Archie has available, but it's certainly a positive indicator of broader digital comics interest on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

The roughly 1.7 million app downloads figure also doesn't seem to include Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog centric app (also by iVerse) or the publisher's early standalone apps that packaged individual comics, meaning Archie Comics' comprehensive digital presence could be in even better shape than is suggested.

Leave it to those Riverdale folks not to brag.
