The teaser trailer for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is now live, and you can check it out right here on ComicsAlliance. Based on the enormously popular French comic book series by Hergé, the new film is directed by Steven Spielberg and will feature animated characters who look like three-dimensional versions of Hergé´s drawings. Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are among the actors whose performances were digitally captured to aid special effects artists, and it seems that this process will be the source of many of Tintin's visual highs as well as lows.

While the moody trailer for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn depicts some cool period settings and exotic locales (as seen in the comics), the motion-captured characters remain mainly obscured by lighting or camera effects and assorted props. Indeed, we hardly see any character's mouth, much less actual speaking, which seems worryingly conspicuous. However, as it's produced by The Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson and features work by Avatar special effects creators Weta Digital, there's good reason to expect something more astonishing as Tintin nears its December release.
