Best Webcomics Ever (This Week) 12.11.11

Thanks to everyone leaving recommendations in the comment section, and even challenging me on certain opinions. It's honestly really cool to hear from people and discuss comics in a respectful manner. I know it's been a rough year for publishers and retailers in the comics industry, and I don't want to belittle any professionals who are struggling, but being able to read over a hundred excellent comics online each week and discuss them with people on a public forum -- well, it's pretty great.

Still, I'd encourage anyone reading webcomics to support the artists by donating to their work, or even by purchasing some of their merchandise, as well as buying comics from local retail shops. As great as webcomics are, a nice hardcover is sometimes softer on the eyes. Without further delay, the Best Webcomics Ever (This Week) are...Once again, I have to mention Cat and Girl and Octopus Pie this week. Both are so well executed. That's it. I'll move on. But seriously, you guys, seriously check 'em out.

Also, I thought it was really neat that Next Year's Girl creator Katie Valeska will see her excellent Elvis Costello art used in the new live boxset from the musician, even though it seems he is encouraging fans to purchase a Louis Armstrong boxset instead. The ongoing webcomic Punch-Up recently celebrated the 100th update. Cheers to the creators! And those of you who read a lot of webcomics probably noticed the Dr. McNinja cameo in Overcompensating. So much great content to read!

My Top 5 for the week are:

Romantically Apocalyptic

I'm going to be upfront and admit that I don't exactly know what's going on in the series thus far as I'm a lapsed reader. But just look at the image above; it doesn't matter. Even if Romantically Apocalyptic didn't have a fine blend of tongue-in-cheek humor, it would still have awesome fight scenes. And sometimes, as in the case of Avatar, that's enough for me. Thankfully, this rises above. I can't wait to start reading again.

Delilah Dirk and The Turkish Lieutenant

The series is honestly a little too dense to pick up mid-storyline, but as the webcomic begins its fourth chapter, there's never been a better time to get caught up. Delilah Dirk reminds me of the best aspects of classic Disney movies, but skews towards a much more mature audience without being "adult" in a way that could turn off some readers.

Nedroid

Nedroid is the gold standard in webcomics, and its most recent update is merely another in a long line of hilarious strips that make the series one of the best on the sprawling Internet. Hopefully you already know this, but if you don't, get with the program quick lest you look foolish.

Curvy [NSFW]

Curvy is definitely an adult comic, and is very NSFW. The most recent update is an excellent example of the tone in the series -- whimsical art with a lot of heart and dash of pornography -- and it's about something we can all relate to, no matter what world we inhabit: coming home after a long day and masturbating. Don't lie. You do it too.

Feel Afraid

In the vein of a Three Word Phrase or Gunshow, Feel Afraid can be as absurd as it is clever, but doesn't always hit the mark dead-center. The most recently update, however, is excellently drawn, funny, and smart. Sick deck, bro. Sick.
