Aggressive, let's call it... toysploration... has a bit of a bad name thanks to Toy Story's depiction of mad customizer Sid, but in the right hands creepy baby doll pieces can achieve a truly higher calling. Case in point: Stacey Rader/GeekyVixen's line of kitbashed and customized "Battle Babies." Working from a base of plastic babies and ugly animal toys from the 1960s and '70s, Rader builds up the downtrodden playthings with pieces from more celebrated toy lines for standalone oddities and bold dioramas. A bare-bellied baby Batman, a wee Super Mario Bros. cast at war, and some diabolically funny Star Wars pieces from Rader's Etsy shop await you after the cut.

Seasoned action figure fans will spot Total Justice Darkseid's head and claw, a Doctor Strange accessory from the '90s Spider-Man animated series line, assorted G.I. Joe weapons, scads of vintage Star Wars toys and (most of) the Mego Spider-Car among Rader's action figure remixes. You don't have to be a hardcore collector to connect with her work, however. If you've spent any time at all rummaging through flea markets or garage sales (or if you battled other babies shortly after you were born -- we won't judge), you'll likely connect with Rader's bizarre Battle Babies.
