Fox's 2003 Daredevil movie was on the mind of comic book movie fans earlier this week when there was some back-and-forth over whether Disney and Fox might swap some movie rights, but now DD's star Ben Affleck is getting the spotlight with the news that Warner Bros. apparently wants the former Man Without Fear to direct its tentative Justice League movie.According to Variety, "Thus far, Affleck is the only candidate who's been sent Will Beall's 'Justice League' script, which the 'Gangster Squad' scribe was hired to write last summer," meaning other directors are likely in line if the 39-year-old actor/writer/director passes.

While a critically-acclaimed talent in Hollywood in his own right, Affleck seems like a bit of an odd choice for a Justice League film - especially considering DC is expected to follow Disney's lead and establish a tentpole franchise a la the mega-successful The Avengers. With Joss Whedon committed to working on The Avengers 2 and a potential Marvel Universe TV series, a similar scheme at Warner Bros. would potentially tie up whoever took on the Justice League for a number of years as well. Such a commitment is right on the money for Whedon given his numerous superhero and sci-fi successes (in comics as well as film), but a little less in tune with Affleck's pedigree of dramas and comedies - though he's starred in plenty of Kevin Smith films.

Still, if Affleck took the gig, he'd come into it having learned exactly what not to do in his past life as Matt Murdock. He essentially swore off superhero films in 2006 -- or at least playing one himself -- citing the humiliation associated with Daredevil. He's not exactly a titan of fandom the way Whedon is, but we could at least trust him not to have anyone murder a criminal in the opening scene of a Justice League film to a nu metal/rap rock soundtrack.

"That's not heaven, Lex Luthor. That's the 'C' Train."
