Adam McKay Says He’s ‘Definitely’ Returning for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

A few months ago, Adam McKay didn’t seem so sure about his involvement with Ant-Man and the Wasp, though he did say he wanted to return for Marvel’s upcoming sequel. McKay came on board the first Ant-Man a bit late in the game, helping Paul Rudd with some rewrites when director Peyton Reed replaced Edgar Wright, but it looks like the Oscar-nominated director of The Big Short will be on board from the get-go this time around.

The Big Short received five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for McKay, and while we wait to find out if the funny guy who brought us comedy classics like Step Brothers and Anchorman is going home with an Oscar (or three), McKay is thinking about his future projects.

In a conversation with Nerdist about all of the above, McKay revealed that he’s “definitely” returning for Ant-Man and the Wasp, and that he’s already met with Marvel:

We’ve been talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don’t know if it’s gonna be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There’s a little headline for the fanboys!

Although McKay may not be scripting the first draft or developing the story, it appears that he’s been tapped to work on the screenplay in some capacity. It’s unclear if the “we” he refers to includes Paul Rudd, who is definitely returning to reprise his role as Scott Lang — but is he returning as screenwriter as well?

Evangeline Lilly and director Peyton Reed are also returning for the sequel, which will focus on — as the title suggests — Ant-Man and the Wasp, with the latter teased in a post-credits scene in which Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne was given the super-suit worn by her mother, the first Wasp.

Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters on July 6, 2018.
