Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. threw a major curveball for the final Season 4 “pod,” sending the team into a Matrix-like “Framework” that doubles as a “What If” story for Hydra’s rise. We’ll have to wait until April for answers, including what became of John Hannah’s Daniel Radcliffe, though bosses have officially debunked one fan prediction with regard to Fitz.

You’re warned of full Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 spoilers from here on out, but prior to the “Framework” reboot of AIDA killing her maker, and Fitz re-imagining his life as a Tony Stark-type playboy, Radcliffe taunted Fitz about his absentee father, who’d abandoned the boy at age 10. Radcliffe claimed in “Hot Potato Soup” to have known Fitz’s father personally; triggering alarm bells with fans who’d noticed a physical resemblance between the two engineers, as well as a shared Scottish heritage.

That said (and with reveals to come in the final Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 episodes), EP Jed Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly the two share no relation:

They’re both Scottish, and we’ve discussed it at length. Truthfully, there’s no one better to play his dad than John Hannah, but no, Radcliffe is not his father.

It’s likely we’ll at least see Hannah again, given Radcliffe’s permanent ascension to the Framework, but will Fitz’s alternate reality circle back to include the character’s mysterious father? What of that unidentified woman in the car, given that Simmons appeared to be six feet under?
