The finale fireworks of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 left fans more pumped for Season 3 than its predecessor, and the latest cast promotion again feels almost overdue. Henry Simmons has at last cemented Mack’s place among the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., elevated to series regular status for Season 3.

TVLine broke word of Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie’s regular status in Season 3, following word that Tomorrow People star Luke Mitchell would also jump to series regular status for his Inhuman role as Lincoln. Simmons first appeared in the Season 2 premiere as the new S.H.I.E.L.D. team’s mechanic and friend to the ailing Fitz, though by the finale, Mack had well-established himself as an imposing agent initially aligned with Edward James Olmos’ “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Elsewhere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3, we know that fellow series regulars Adrianne Palicki (Mockingbird) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter) will also return, ABC having abandoned plans for a spinoff centered around the pair. The Avengers-adjacent drama will also form its own incarnation of the Secret Warriors storyline, presumably also helping build up to Captain America: Civil War, and breaking midway for Agent Carter Season 2.

Simmons’ Mack certainly ranked as one of the stronger additions for Season 2, but will Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally become a formidable force this fall? What other characters should make the leap to full-time?
