It’s never entirely clear where DC draws the line at major heroes and villains in The CW series, given the use of characters like Superman and Flash, but not Batman. Green Lantern too has been given frequent Arrow reference, though producers now officially state they “could never” feature the character in brightest day, or blackest night.

Comic Book Resources spoke to executive producer Wendy Mericle on the subject, specifically that while locations like Coast City and characters such as Carly Pope’s Susan Williams may end up in focus, the Green Lantern himself is strictly off-limits.

One of the fun parts of the show is that you can put these characters in and the Easter eggs and the fans that know this universe so well respond to it on varying levels of excitement and whatnot, but the thing about her character that’s so intriguing is that it operates on that level. It also operates because she’s someone who’s very intrigued by Oliver, who’s going to uncover some secrets that Oliver has, which is going to be really fun, and is a fun nod to the Green Lantern, who obviously we could never bring on the show.

Then again, CBR also pointed out that Arrow has grown to include Supergirl, Flash and an upcoming alien crossover, to which Mericles gamely replied “This is 100% true! I mean, really Season 6 and on, all bets are off, right?” Certainly Arrow has already lain the groundwork for Hal Jordan, between mentions of a Ferris Air test pilot disappearing, Coast City jackets and more.

Much seems within reach for Arrow that wasn’t only a few seasons ago, but will a Green Arrow/Green Lantern crossover ever make that list?
