The Arrow-verse may feel a bit busier than usual this year, to add both Supergirl and a host of other DC heroes and villains to the ranks. Unfortunately, that crowded feeling might push Matt Ryan’s John Constantine to the fringe, as Arrow bosses have no plans to return the character in any capacity just yet.

Per IGN, DC-verse executive producer Greg Berlanti revealed at the TCA press tour that no overtures have been made with the goal of another live-action Constantine appearance, despite a number of references to John past Matt Ryan’s Arrow appearance early in Season 4. If anything, DC might look to use the character in some other form:

We haven’t had any conversations with them about Constantine … Constantine exists in a certain place in the DC world and universe … they’re kind of internally examining what they want to do with that character next.

Worth noting, Matt Ryan has already returned to the role in animated form, as the new Justice League Dark movie features the former NBC star again suited down as the demon-fighting detective. Meanwhile, the same rumors that saw Batman potentially coming to the Arrow-verse also listed Constantine as a series regular possibility across all series, but were similarly shot down by Berlanti.

The CW may have more DC characters than it knows what to do with for the moment, but is it a mistake not to keep Constantine in the fold? In the meantime, you can watch all episodes of the NBC series on CW Seed, and stay tuned for further word on the character.
