We’re still waiting on a proper trailer for Arrow Season 4 to glimpse its secrets, but despite the acknowledgement of Green Lantern’s hometown of Coast City, producers have thoroughly shot down the notion of Oliver Queen teaming with any member of the Lantern Corps this year. Or have they? New production art from the season really wants you to believe in an Arrow / Green Lantern teamup.

Take this one with a pier’s worth of salt for a moment, but where executive producer Marc Guggenheim personally denied that Season 4 would introduce any Green Lantern to coincide with Oliver’s trips to Coast City (past or present), the co-showrunner also shared a new piece of production art, that … well, should seem a bit familiar to those versed in Green Lantern’s mantra.

Huh. Well, whatever surprises Guggenheim intends to keep (it’s difficult to imagine a Lantern appearance keeping under wraps, considering the existing Constantine crossover, crowded Legends setup, and the usual issues keeping major Justice League-rs off live-action TV), what are we to make of that? The fine print says we’ll see the ad as a Coast City billboard in the premiere, but could a millennia-old galactic peace corps have borrowed its slogan from an Earth billboard?

Might we instead presume the Arrow and Flash-verse already has its incarnation of Green Lantern operating under wraps, and by day skirting subtlety’s good name as a member of the Coast City tourism board? Are we to take that “disappeared” Ferris Airlines test pilot Barry mentioned as Hal Jordan after all? Green Lantern teases are one thing, but the use of “In brightest day, in blackest night” doesn’t seem to make sense in any context. What’s the deal, Guggen-brah?

In addition to its Constantine crossover, we know of Arrow Season 4 that the fourth year is expected to somewhat creatively revamp the series after its Season 3 finale saw Oliver retiring the vigilante lifestyle. In addition to a focusing on DC villains H.I.V.E. and Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Season 4 will also introduce Rutina Wesley, Parker Young, Jeri Ryan’s Jessica Danforth, J.R. Bourne’s Double Down, Echo Kellum’s Mr. Terrific, Alexander Calvert’s Anarky, and White Canary before her Legends of Tomorrow role.

Apart from Wendy Mericle’s elevation to co-showrunner alongside Marc Guggenheim, we also know that Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander will helm an episode. Arrow Season 4 will premiere on October 7, but we’ll look into this Green Lantern chicanery, and stand by for the full trailer soon!
