For as much as Comic-Con 2015 and beyond revealed of Arrow Season 4, we don’t yet have the clearest picture what Oliver will be doing in flashback this year, other than the vague suggestion that the younger Mr. Queen will head to Green Lantern’s hometown of Coast City. The series has alluded to Green Lantern on a number of occasions, but is a Season 4 appearance really in the cards?

Don’t hold your breath. According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim’s latest conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, we should expect neither Hal Jordan, nor any significant revelation of the fan-favorite theory that John Diggle will be revealed as an incarnation of famed ringbearer John Stewart. Said Guggenheim:

They announced the Green Lantern Corps movie, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t include Hal Jordan. It would be great but I doubt it very much.

Arrow has previously referenced Ferris Air (as in Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan’s longtime love interest and eventual Star Sapphire) as early as the first season, though speculation hit a fever pitch with an offhand Flash reference that the airline shuttered after one of their test pilots “disappeared,” a seemingly obvious allusion to Green Lantern’s origins. Still, should Oliver Queen have hopped that freighter to Coast City, star Stephen Amell at least previews that “an old friend” may factor into Oliver’s next chapter.

Thus far of Arrow Season 4, we know the fourth year is expected to somewhat creatively revamp the series after its Season 3 finale saw Oliver retiring the vigilante lifestyle, at least with his current costume. In addition to a focus on DC villains H.I.V.E. and Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Season 4 will also introduce Echo Kellum’s Mr. Terrific, and Alexander Calvert’s Anarky. Apart from Wendy Mericle’s elevation to co-showrunner alongside Marc Guggenheim, we also know that Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander will helm an episode.

We’ll surely see more of Arrow Season 4 as production gears up in Vancouver, but what might Oliver find in Coast City, if not any overt Green Lantern appearances?
