The great thing about having a long-running franchise about robots is that when it comes time for the inevitable reboot, you can just go ahead and put the word "Reboot" right there in the title and come away with something that is both accurate and thematically appropriate. That, at least, seems to be the reasoning behind Astro Boy Reboot, the upcoming animated series that returns Astro Boy to the small screen for a planned 26-episode run.

Now, we've gotten a look at the poster for the series via AnimeNewsNetwork, and along with a spiffy new design for the main character that includes what appears to be the polo shirt of the future, we're also getting a look at a few of the other main characters.

With the new series sporting new designs, it's a little difficult for a more casual Astro Boy fan to tell which characters might be coming back for Reboot. I think it's safe to assume that the bearded, bespectacled man looming over everyone in the background is Dr. Tenma, Astro Boy's original father and creator, and the uniformed fellow on the left is likely Police Inspector Tawashi. As for who else is going to show up, that remains to be seen.

Based, of course, on the popular manga and anime series created by Osamu Tezuka, Reboot represents the latest iteration of Astro Boy, and serves as an international co-proudction of Tezuka Productions in Japan, the Caribara Animation studio in France, and Shibuya Productions out of --- where else? --- Monaco. Astro Boy Reboot is slated to kick off in 2017.
