Exclusive: Z2 Reveals New Covers By Missy Pena, Miguel Porto And More
We're holding out high hopes for Z2 Comics, the new small-scale publisher launching this fall with a pleasingly eclectic line-up of books, including Ian McGinty's potentially charming Welcome to Showside (soon to be an animated series), Chris Hunt's noir crime adventure story Carver, and the risque fantasy comedy Allen: Son of Hellcock, co-written by one of the Last Week Tonight writers.
Z2 Comics has given us an exclusive first look at some of the upcoming covers for all three titles, including Missy Pena's gorgeous Showside cover.
Conservatives Outraged That New Captain America Is As Political As Original Captain America
Captain America: Sam Wilson #1, by Nick Spencer and Daniel Acuna, has caused a stir since its release last week. The second launch for former Falcon Sam Wilson in his role as the current thrower of the mighty shield sees him taking on the Sons of the Serpent, who are abducting Mexicans attempting to cross the border into the US. The same issue also sees Cap making a public call for national unity, which gets him branded as a partisan, anti-American, and a socialist.
Conservatives on social media are riled up, with some petitioning for writer Nick Spencer's 'resignation'. Political advocacy group The MacIver Insitute was apparently the first to claim the Sons of the Serpent as its ideological peers in a YouTube video objecting to the storyline, while Saturday morning's Fox And Friends TV talk show saw co-host Clayton Henry pine for for the days when Cap was "punching Hitler" and fighting typical Captain America villains, rather than "going up against conservatives."
Kamala, Miles, Sam & Jane Assemble for Best Avengers Line-Up Ever in ‘A-NA-DA’ #1 [Preview]
Kamala Khan is an Avenger now, and that's pretty great. Miles Morales is also an Avenger now, and that's great too. And, of course, Jane Foster is Thor, and Sam Wilson is Captain America, and Vision is Vision, and Sam Alexander is Nova, and... well, Tony Stark is still Iron Man, I think. But I'd be happy if they replaced that guy too, because replacing those other heroes has honestly made this one of the most exciting and vibrant Avengers line-ups in years! Let's replace Tony Stark with America Chavez!
But even with boring ol' Tony sticking around, I am on board for this team, and hopefully you are too. But in case you need convincing, here's an unlettered preview of All-New All-Different Avengers #1 by Mark Waid and Mahmud Asrar!
The Pressure is On in ‘Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake: Card Wars’ #4 [Preview]
Cake is a cat on a mission in these preview pages for Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake: Card Wars #4. Don't mistake that aggressive showering and aggressive cereal eating for signs that she's not a morning cat; Cake has a Card Wars Championship to win. If you've ever been in any kind of tournament, you may recognize Cake's mix of grim determination and heart-wrenching anxiety.
Get A First Look at Laura Kinney as the All-New Wolverine [Preview]
Spider-Man; Captain America; Thor; Hulk; Marvel has done a remarkable job in recent years of passing some of its best known hero identities from a surfeit of regular ol' white dudes to characters that better represent the diversity of the world we live in, sometimes by handing the mantle to a person of color, sometimes to a woman, sometimes both.
This welcome development continues with a woman, Laura Kinney, taking the role of Wolverine, and making her official debut with that codename in All-New Wolverine #1 next month courtesy of writer Tom Taylor and the art team of David Lopez and David Navarrot. Marvel has released a preview that you can check out below, along with all the variant covers.
Drax Gets To Destroyin’ In New Series from Scott Hepburn, Cullen Bunn and CM Punk [Preview]
That Drax fella has a thing for retired wrestlers; he was played by one, Dave Bautista, in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and is being written by another, C.M. Punk, in his new self-titled series.
Never let it be said that Marvel doesn't give new talents a shot; Punk is relatively inexperienced in the comics writing game, even more so than Bautista at the acting game. Fortunately he's tag-teaming with co-writer and Sixth Gun creator Cullen Bunn, and the two of them can count on the expressive and dynamic pencil work of former Captain Marvel artist Scott Hepburn, who will help keep the blood flowing as Drax the Destroyer carves his way through his enemies. Check out an unlettered preview.

Check out an exclusive preview of next week's Lumberjanes: Beyond Bay Leaf.
Exclusive: Shana Cover Revealed for ‘Jem And The Holograms’ Dark Jem Storyline
Glamour takes a twisted turn and glitter goes Goth in the upcoming Jem And The Holograms story arc 'Dark Jem', launching in Jem and the Holograms #11 from the reunited launch team of writer Kelly Thompson and artist Sophie Campbell, with variant covers by Jen Bartel. The storyline, unveiled today at New York Comic-Con, features a dark mirror of super-computer Synergy called Silica (amazing) and corrupted takes on all our girls.
The first issue of the story will launch with five variant covers that will also be available all together as a metallic foil box set. You can check out one of the covers above --- an awesome Dark Shana, dripping with shadows --- revealed exclusively here at ComicsAlliance.
Everyone’s Got A Story: Check Out A Preview Of Chris Hunt’s ‘Carver: A Paris Story’ [Exclusive]
Being billed as the protege of Paul Pope is a pretty daunting promise to live up to, yet that's how boutique publisher Z2 Comics is positioning newcomer Chris Hunt for his upcoming graphic novel Carver: A Paris Story, a sinister noir tale of murders and vendettas in the city more usually associated with lovers.
