Matt Miner and Jonathan Brandon Sawyer Usher in ‘GWAR: Orgasmageddon’ [Back Pages]
We're always up for something new here at ComicsAlliance. When comics writer Matt Miner got in touch to let us know that he was collaborating with a group of interdimensional aliens who were also members of a rock band called GWAR... it wasn't the strangest thing we'd ever heard. But it was intriguing. And with the recent announcement of GWAR: Orgasmageddon, a new comics story from Miner, GWAR, and artist Jonathan Brandon Sawyer, we had to find out exactly what was going on.
With the comic now running on Kickstarter and edging towards a funding target of $39,000, we sat down with Miner and Sawyer to get their insight on how this bizarre, violent, musically disturbing collaboration came about. Fear everything!

The Fans’ Favorite: Celebrating the Work of Bill Mantlo
On November 9, 1951, one of the purest superhero comics writers of all time was born: William ‘Bill’ Mantlo. Best known for his work at Marvel, Mantlo was a talent whose persistence, hard work, and knack for character saw him rise up the ranks to take on a succession of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes --- and co-create several new icons in the process.

Chris Mole and Melissa Trender Revive The Goddess ‘Brigantia’ [Back Pages]
A new project on Kickstarter sees a Pagan Goddess thrown out of time and thrust into a modern day Britain, where her hopes and ideals have fallen apart in the face of a society that has grown careless, xenophobic, and sheltered.
Brigantia, by the creative team of Chris Mole and Melissa Trender, is a deliberately political look at modern day Britain through an unexpected filter, the real-world Pagan Goddess Brigantia. The series is running a Kickstarter campaign that just recently hit its £6,000 goal. ComicsAlliance spoke to Mole and Trender to find out about their backgrounds and why Brigantia is a passion project for them both. It's Godhoods at Dawn, with the soul of a nation on the line...

My Favorite Monster: Go Big Or Go Home With The Ogdru Jahad [Fantasy Week]
When thinking about favorite monsters, I wanted to go to one of the biggest, most uncontrollable and terrifying concepts that have ever hit the comics page. Dinosaurs and demons are all well and good, but they offer a threat that doesn’t dig deep beneath the skin. What really frightens me is unknown, unseen terror that exists in fugue; horrors like the Ogdru Jahad, creatures we've seen only briefly in Mike Mignola-created books including Hellboy and B.P.R.D..
Stick ‘Em: Should You Be Reading ‘Cindy & Biscuit’? [Fantasy Week]
The woods are a dark and scary place. Anything could be out there, prowling, circling. But wherever monsters, aliens, demons, and fantastical menaces go, so go Cindy & Biscuit, wielding a tree branch and ready to chase down evil whenever it appears. Sure, nobody else has ever seen the fiends that Cindy and her stalwart canine companion regularly do battle with --- but that’s no reason to suggest that none of it ever happened!
De Campi And Parker Issue a ‘Mayday’ Warning [Interview]
This November sees a whole lot of sex, drugs and violence kick in over at Image Comics, with the first issue of Mayday from the creative team of Alex de Campi, Tony Parker and Blond. The five-issue miniseries, set in the 1970s, sees two Russian agents sent to the U.S. with a mission to kill a Cold War defector and recover a list of Soviet assets.
The series plays into some of de Campi's familial history, with Parker and Blond joining to create a real, lived-in sense of time and location. This is a comic that feels like it's actually in the '70s, and features an urgency and paranoid tension from the first few pages onwards. Duly hooked, ComicsAlliance spoke to the creative team to find out more about what we can expect from Mayday #1 next month.
