If you haven’t seen Avengers: Age of Ultron yet, now is your chance to turn back, as this post addresses a question raised by the mid-credits scene at the end of the new film. Many fans have pointed out something strange about that scene — something that doesn’t quite make sense given what we know about the MCU so far. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has an explanation for you, if you just can’t wait another movie (or three) to find out.

To recap: at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, we see Thanos reaching into what appears to be a safe of some kind, from which he retrieves the Infinity Gauntlet and says, “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” — but how could that be, given that the last time we saw the gauntlet, it was tucked away safely in Odin’s vault? Feige was pretty open about the explanation to CinemaBlend:

There are two different gloves. That was not Odin’s vault that you see at the end.

Yes, there are actually two Infinity gauntlets in the MCU. If and when all the Infinity stones are assembled and placed into a glove, the wearer will have all the power in the universe. Hard to imagine what that means if the wearer has both gloves.

So far, we’ve only seen four of the six Infinity Stones: the Space Stone, aka the Tesseract from Captain America; the Mind Stone, which was in Loki’s scepter and is now in Vision’s forehead; the Reality Stone, which was the Aether in Thor: The Dark World; and the Power Stone, aka the Orb from Guardians of the Galaxy. The Time Stone and Soul Stone are still left to be introduced before we head into Avengers: Infinity War.

That mid-credits scene promises that Thanos will become more active in the MCU, now that he’s decided to no longer rely on the services of other, punier villains to collect the stones for him. It’s about damn time, since so far, Thanos has been the laziest villain and has (laughably) accomplished absolutely nothing.
