Focusing mostly on sidescrolling action, the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate has been characterized as a "MetroidVania" experience, much to the delight of gamers like, say... Chris Sims. In a new interview with Polygon, BAOB director Mark Pacini may have sweetened the pot even further for players as he likened the title to yet another classic gaming series. How does Batman with a Mega Man twist sound?

No, Batman won't be blasting away at robots, but BAOB will allow players to choose their own boss order. Beating bosses yields upgrades, too, giving players the chance to complete the game at varying degrees of difficulty to encourage replaying again and again.

"It's more akin to how Mega Man used to do it," Pacini told Polygon, "where if I get this item, then this boss is a lot easier."

Depending on which path players take (and which items they equip), "the game's final half hour" will apparently be vastly different. Beating the game will also unlock new items like special suits with the kind of perks that make dying less of a concern - like increased bullet resistance.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available on the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS/2DS on October 25.
