Comics publishers came out in full force with tribute material to honor the victims and rescue workers who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This year, artist Ben Turnbull contributed his own superhero-inspired take for a new London art exhibition called "Supermen - An Era of Heroes."Turnbull's works include mixed media and collaged comics on wood that reframe iconic visual elements from Captain America, Superman and Spider-Man comics. Logo riffs, portraits and even an action figure carrying the head of Saddam Hussein appear in his gallery on the Eleven website.

His art contemplates violence and patriotism in the context of fighting evil and celebrates peace as an ultimate goal. He also lavishes praise on the New York City institutions, men and women who deserve it most, though, packing in dense assortments of iconic comics faces into bigger emblems associated with New York and the attack on the World Trade Center.
