Whether you stumbled onto Brian Hurtt's artwork for the first time this year on his Oni Press series "The Sixth Gun" with Cullen Bunn or way back in the day when he was drawing "Hard Time" for DC and Steve Gerber, you've probably seen that he excels at endowing everyday scenes with surreal and horrific qualities.

Flip through the Punisher, Micronauts and other commissions Hurtt's posted to his Hurtt Locker blog, and you'll notice that his talents don't end there. His line work is tight, and the the guy doesn't skimp detail, whether he's tackling large guns or jungle vegetation.

Other standouts include his Thor Frog, Wolverine clacking claws with X-23 and an old fashioned Marvel superheroes card game. He's definitely one to keep an eye out for at shows if you've got a page in your sketchbook longing for some art. A few of our handpicked highlights from his portfolio await you below.
