At this year's BrickCon -- an unofficial annual gathering of LEGO enthusiasts held in Seattle taking place from Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 -- east meets west as builders follow the overall theme of "Big in Japan," and, if the event-focused "Big in Japan at BrickCon 2010" Flickr group is any indication, LEGO fanatics and otaku have answered the call in droves with some incredible contributions for the upcoming show with numerous brick creations based on films like "Spirited Away," "My Neighbor Totoro," "Castle in the Sky," "Akira" and more.

Each year, LEGO fansite The Brothers Brick coordinate a collaborative display for LEGO enthusiasts to participate for a chance to win prizes and giveaways. The previous two years focused on zombies, but this year celebrates Japanese culture, with a focus on anime and manga, and plenty of Studio Ghibli films present and accounted for. Given the limitless possibilities of both elements involved in the event, it seems like a match made in Danish building block heaven.

BrickCon 2010 will be held at the Seattle Center starting Thursday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 3. For more into, check out the official BrickCon website. While its easy to spend a good chunk of your day looking at the entries, we've posted a few of our favorites below to help streamline the process.
