We’d previously heard early rumors that a major player will die in Captain America: Civil War (a rumor we won’t repeat here) — you can’t really have a Civil War without major stakes, so that’s not terribly surprising. Today’s latest rumor suggests that at least one other Marvel character will perish in the upcoming film, which pits Captain America against Iron Man and forces the Avengers to choose a side.

Potential spoilers to follow, of course.

Heroic Hollywood reports that Black Panther’s father, T’Chaka, will be killed in Civil War. This will likely inform T’Challa / Black Panther’s origin story as Chadwick Boseman makes his MCU debut in the film. Previously, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige teased Black Panther’s involvement along with his father following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron:

Today, pre-Civil War, post-Ultron I think he and his father are saying, ‘A bunch of vibranium just got out of here and wreaked a lot of havoc. Maybe we can’t stay behind these borders anymore, maybe we have to stick our heads out and make at least an attempt to be a part of the rest of the world right now, while at the same time protecting our people.’

We already got a tiny hint of Black Panther’s world with Andy Serkis’ character in Age of Ultron — Serkis played Ulysses Klaw, one of Black Panther’s foes from the comics.

In another post back in May, Heroic Hollywood reported that Black Panther will be on the hunt for the Winter Soldier in Civil War. Perhaps ol’ Bucky is responsible for T’Chaka’s death?

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
