Earlier last week it was reported that Captain Marvel is currently eyeing three possible directors to helm Marvel’s first standalone female superhero film. Now it appears another potential name has been added to the list: Rebecca Thomas. Jeff Sneider of Mashable broke the news that Thomas is a “mystery contender” today on Twitter.

The three other candidates are Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, The Meddler), Niki Caro (Whale Rider), and Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland). Thomas is best known for directing Electrick Children, about “a young Mormon girl living in an isolated compound who listens to music for the first time and believes she’s become pregnant and must find the father of her miracle baby.” She’s also signed on to direct Universal’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid, starring Chloë Grace Moretz (not to be confused with Disney’s own live-action remake).

If picked, Thomas would join Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur), who’ve been picked to co-write Captain Marvel. This will be the first MCU film to be directed and written by women, starring a female protagonist. Obviously, Marvel feels, and rightly so, that an all-female team would give Carol Danvers the nuance she deserves. The studio probably won’t finalize their director decision until the end of this year, with Infinity War being the next high priority for the studio, and more names might be added to this list as the search continues.

Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson, and is expected to be in theaters in 2019.
