The Best (and Nerdiest) Costumes From the 2013 Silver Snail Halloween Party

Bob's Burgers

Toronto's Silver Snail comic store held its annual Halloween costume party last Saturday, and the city's proud and nerdy were out in force with brilliant, weird and original outfits.

Photographer Paul Hillier captured some of the best costumes of the night -- including several X-Men, a Lannister, a Stark, some exceptional gender reversals and a sinister Pinhead. Click on,  true believer.

The Comics Alliance Reader Halloween Costume Spooktacular 2013

CA Reader Halloween Costumes

Today is Halloween, and as is our tradition here at ComicsAlliance, we have set out the bowl of candy, lit the Jack O'Lantern and invited our readers to send us pictures of their Halloween costumes for the express purpose of making fun of them. Seriously, we made that as clear as we possibly could, and still, a pretty solid number of our readers decided to take us up on the offer. Now, it's up to me to ruthlessly mock lovingly tease them for what is, to be quite honest, a pretty impressive display of creativity.

Seriously, this year's costumes are both incredibly fun and very impressive, but I'm not one to break a promise to make fun of something. So join us as we head out for our annual round of Trick-or-Treating with 15 Costumes from ComicsAlliance Readers!

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week): The Dark Knight Returns, Mass Effect, BioShock & More

Untitled-1

Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving communities of costuming that exist, such as Cosplay.com and the Superhero Costuming Forum. Over the years, the cosplay community has evolved into a creative outlet for many fans to establish and showcase some impressive feats of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics at conventions. In honor of the caped crusaders of the convention scene, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), an ongoing collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into a super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.

Comics Alliance Presents ‘Kate or Die’ in ‘Cosplay + Consent’ [New Original Comics Strip!]

Untitled-1

Welcome to the first episode of ComicsAlliance Presents Kate or Die, a new series of exclusive comic strips created by one of our longtime favorite webcomics cartoonists, Kate Leth!

Also a contributor to BOOM! Studios' Adventure Time line, IDW's Locke & Key and Image's The Strange Talent of Luthor Strode, Kate's self-published work, seen on Tumblr and comic cons and elsewhere, has earned her a dedicated following for its idiosyncratic blend of adorable irreverence and brutal honesty (often equally adorable) toward topics of all kinds, from dating to depression to Doctor Who. For ComicsAlliance, Kate or Die will focus mainly on the sort of subject matter you've come to expect from the site, but you should also anticipate Kate taking the strip to some unpredictably cool places.

In this episode, Kate takes on a topic that the forces of creepery will never lay to rest: cosplay and consent.

The Comics Alliance Halloween Costume Countdown: Generic Superheroines

Generic Superheroine Halloween Costumes

October is finally upon is, and here at ComicsAlliance, and one of the best parts of the month is gearing up for Halloween with costumes! It’s the one time of year when even people like me who could never cut it in our Best Cosplay Ever feature can drop by the local department store and walk out with the ability to dress up as our favorite characters.

But is that really a good thing? I have my doubts, which is why I’m spending every day taking on the store-bought costumes inspired by our favorite things. Today, we're heading into the discount aisle and trying not to violate copyrights with Generic Superheroines!

Your favorite nerdcore rapper is at it again. Adam WarRock, a.k.a. Eugene Ahn, is putting his deft blend of lyrical skill and comic knowledge into a brand new album, titled The Middle Of Nowhere. We've written in the past about the connections between hip hop and comics, and Adam WarRock is at the forefront of the next wave of emcees to hone their craft while inspired by the comics and characters they love. Simply put, WarRock is dope, and he's just debuted the video for his first single off the album, titled "B.S.F.X." (Batman Sound Effects).
