First Glimpse at Post-’Secret Wars’ Avengers Reveals Ms. Marvel, New Thor, and… Who?

All-New_All-Different_Avengers_Assemble_1-feat

All-New All-Different Avengers is one of two Marvel Free Comic Book Day titles, alongside Secret Wars #0, and while the latter sets the stage for Marvel's multiversal summer event, the former is our first look at what the new Marvel Universe will look like after Secret Wars --- so of course, Marvel is only telling us so much. The publisher has now revealed a cover for the Free Comic Book Day All-New All-Different Avengers comic, but most of the cover remains in silhouette.

Still, that won't stop us from wildly speculating (and maybe even making some informed guesses).

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Will Be Jennifer Lawrence’s Last ‘X-Men’ Film

20th Century Fox
20th Century Fox

This isn’t exactly surprising news, since it’s been speculated for some time now that Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy might be making X-Men: Apocalypse their last outing with the franchise. Lawrence and Fassbender in particular are in increasingly high demand (and they aren’t particularly cheap, either), so it makes sense that either or both of them wouldn’t want to remain tied to the franchise for much longer. Lawrence has confirmed as much in a new interview, putting the speculation to rest once and for all.

Marvel Introduces ‘A-Force Presents,’ An Anthology Collection Featuring Female Heroes

A-Force_Presents_Vol.1-hed

Marvel has announced a new bi-monthly book called A-Force Presents that will collect issues of various Marvel comics featuring female heroes in trade paperback format. Rather than the traditional collection of a single storyline, these collections will be more of sampler of what's going on at Marvel at any given time. This is a great idea from Marvel, and a really exciting example of how the publisher is taking women seriously as an audience.

‘Deadpool’ Production Begins; Vanessa and Weasel Confirmed as Characters

deadpool-ryan-reynolds-630x4201

For a long time it seemed like the Deadpool movie could never happen. The character's first appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine completely mis-read Deadpool's appeal despite the seemingly perfect casing of Ryan Reynolds. When Reynolds made his DC with the Green Lantern movie for Warner Bros., it seemed unlikely that Deadpool would ever get back in track.

The canny decision to leak some test footage back in July of last year for a Deadpool movie treatment that relies heavily on CGI to embrace the character's Looney Tunes cartoonishness caused enough of a stir that Deadpool was suddenly alive again, with Reynolds still attached to star. Now we have evidence from the cast that the movie has entered into production, which means it is really, actually happening.

Creators, Start Your Engines: Oni To Accept Submissions In May

screenshot_2014-06-25_13.31.13.png

Today, Oni Press announced that in May they will begin to accept submissions. This is a big deal in the comics world, as Marvel and DC don't accept unsolicited submissions and only some of the next tier of publishers ever do. Accepting submissions puts Oni in a better place to bring new talent into the industry, and to compete for that talent with the few publishers who do accept submissions, like Dark Horse.

‘Dredd 2’ Definitely Isn’t Happening, According to Writer Alex Garland

Dredd 2
Lionsgate

Most people who saw 2012’s Dredd, a dark reboot of the classic British comic book anti-hero Judge Dredd, dug it. Almost 20 years after Sylvester Stallone made a thoroughly campy mess of the property in Judge Dredd, director Pete Travis, screenwriter Alex Garland and star Karl Urban produced a far more faithful version of Dredd with a bleak tone, gritty action, and a hero who never takes off his signature helmet.
