In an age of the direct market and solicitation copy available three months ahead of time, it's hard to truly pull a swerve on comic readers like publishers used to, but Valiant Entertainment may have pulled it off. While fans have been waiting for Rafer Roberts and Darick Robertson's new team title Harbinger Renegades, due next month, today Valiant announced the series' true title as Harbinger Renegade, and revealed that it introduces a dangerous new villain to the Valiant Universe ahead of 2018's major crossover event.

The question most often asked of the ComicsAlliance staff is a variation of, “Which comic books should I be reading?” or, “I’m new to comics, what’s a good place to start?” The Wednesday deluge of new comic books, graphic novels and collected editions can be daunting even for the longtime reader, much less for those totally unfamiliar with creators, characters and publishers, and the dark mysteries of comic book shopping like variants, pre-ordering, and formats. It’s with these challenges in mind that we’ve created Best Comic Books Ever (This Week), an ongoing guide curated by the ComicsAlliance staff. This is where new comics readers and seasoned Wednesday shoppers alike can find our picks of the best books the medium has to offer.

Ninjak Meets 'The Seven Blades Of Master Darque'
Ninjak became a ninja when an undead monk psychically commanded him to train. The thing is, Ninjak isn't the Undead Monk's only student. There are six more. And while Ninjak did a pretty thorough (and violent) job of taking them out in the book's first arc, it seems that they've found new a new employer: the mystical and sinister Master Darque. Meet the Seven Blades of Master Darque in the new arc by Marc Laming and Matt Kindt, kicking off in Ninjak #23 in January.

Ninjak And Eternal Warrior Are The Buddy Comedy Of The Year
Who doesn't love a buddy comedy? There's something about a pair of mismatched heroes that are meant to be doing something serious that keeps getting derailed by how incompatible they are. It's a formula that almost always works, whether it's something like couple of of cops where one is straitlaced and by-the-books and the other is a little wild, or if one of the cops is a British ninja super-spy and the other is the magically immortal fist and steel of the Earth itself, and instead of crime they're fighting magical spiders. Also, it all happens in the future. And Michel Fiffe does a cover for it. So maybe it's not your standard buddy comedy, but Ninjak #20 has some pretty great moments between Colin King and the guest-starring Eternal Warrior. Check it out a preview!

Some people say that politics and politicians have no place in comics, but that's just not true. Captain America Comics #1 saw the hero punching out Adolf Hitler on the front cover; FDR was in an issue of Detective Comics two full issues before Batman debuted; and this November, Valiant's premiere female superhero teams up with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in Faith #5.

After weeks of hinting at a top secret project with fan-favorite actors Michael Rowe and Jason David Frank, Valiant Entertainment finally pulled back the curtain on Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe at New York Comic Con. The first trailer for the upcoming digital series brought out the first appearances of familiar Valiant characters like Ninjak and Bloodshot, but we also got glimpses at Archer and Armstrong, X-O Manowar, and the villain of the first season, Roku. Developed by Valiant Digital in conjunction with Bat in the Sun --- they of the Super Power Beat Down --- Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe isn't set to arrive until 2017, but we had a chance to chat with some of the stars at NYCC to learn more about breaking new ground and setting the pace for Valiant's live-action efforts.

For Gilad, the Eternal Warrior, dying isn't really the problem, since he always comes back. But the last time he did, his first-born son wound up in the clutches of a demon prince named Humongous. That's tough to get around, especially since Gilad's only plan right now is to trade his (after)life for his son's and willingly submit to an eternity of torture. Things are starting to get pretty rough, and in Robert Venditti and Robert Gill's Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #12, it's only going to get worse.
