Popeye has been enjoying a comics revival at IDW with new comic stories by Roger Langridge and Ken Wheaton, but this week marks an added focus on the influential works of Bud Sagendorf. Originally the assistant to Thimble Theatre and Popeye creator E.C. Seager, Sagendorf became one of the most prominent creators to pen Popeye over the course of 35 years in various forms - including, of course, a comic book series. IDW and Yoe Books will kick off their effort to reprint these works beginning this Wednesday in Classic Popeye Ongoing #1. The first issue starts off rather unexpectedly, with Popeye being manipulated into giving up his fighting ways in the name of love. Considering his ongoing reputation as a bruiser, however, it's clear this decision didn't stick. It's pretty fun to see the sailor man take a stab at pacifism, though, especially against a dude who can fell forests with his bare fists.
