• "Amok Time" is considered one of the landmark episodes of Star Trek mythos, adding depth to the character of Spock and introducing the concept of Pon Farr and the Vulcan hand salute. It's also an episode where Kirk and Spock wrestle while tearing each other's clothes, making it the cornerstone of modern fan-fiction.
• While it's never been addressed by writer Theodore Sturgeon, one assumes that the idea of Vulcans needing to have sex only once every 7 years was meant to make the character more relatable to the average Trek fan, who has a similar schedule of getting laid.
