While other sites may be content to bring you Rocktober, Shocktober or Mohawktober, ComicsAlliance is committed to commemorating the things that really matter! That's why this month, we're bringing you 31 days of the viking apocalypse as we celebrate Ragnaroktober!!DID YOU KNOW...

  • In the Marvel Universe, Ragnarok is actually a cyclical event that marks the end of a cosmic era and allows the Norse gods to be reborn into new forms. So if you've ever wondered why Thor is so tough, keep in mind that he is basically dealing with the end of the world all the time.
  • Traditionally, Ragnarok is full of dudes being eaten by wolves, ships made of dead men's fingernails sailing on the world of the living and lines like "The eagle shrieks, pale-beaked he tears the corpse." This is why, to this day, Scandanavia remains the home of black metal.
  • The Ragnarok above -- "Ragnarok & Roll" from Walter Simonson's Thor #351 -- is mostly about the fire giant Surtur attacking Asgard. The fine folks holding him off above include Volstagg the Valiant, AKA the Lion of Asgard, AKA the Greatest comic book character of all, and a horse-man from space that became Thor's best friend. Just like the old myths!

Check back tomorrow for more Ragnaroktober celebrations!
