NBC’s cancellation of Constantine set off the familiar scramble to find the series a new home, though showrunner Daniel Cerone seemed optimistic The CW might look to add to its growing DC stable, with whom crossover talks have already occurred. Not so it seems, as The CW may not be Constantine’s salvation after all.

Cerone had previously indicated that The CW’s Thursday Upfront presentation would likely bring news of Constantine’s ultimate fate, but according to a since-deleted tweet, that opportunity may have passed:

Despite ongoing talks I’m told things are not looking up for #Constantine at CW. Don’t have details. Feeling wrecked about it. #Hellblazers

CW boss Mark Pedowitz too seemed to shake off the idea in a conference call with reporters, claiming of the Constantine talks “At the moment, it’s just a rumor. There’s also a rumor going around that I was going to play for the NBA.”

Of course, nether Cerone nor fans were the only voices clamoring to #SaveConstantine, as Arrow star Stephen Amell, Originals star Joseph Morgan and William Shatner all pledged guest appearances for a potential Season 2. We’ve seen series come back from worse as well (cough, Community and Longmire), but might Constantine finally be done? Is The CW’s DC lineup too expansive as is?
