Daredevil Season 2 has been relatively quiet over the last few weeks, most attention focused on the second of our Defenders, Jessica Jones, but Jon Bernthal’s Punisher just stole the spotlight in a huge way. Watch Frank Castle kicking criminal ass in punishing new set photos from Daredevil Season 2!

Though we’ve yet to see any formal costume (or at least a skull slapped onto that all-black wardrobe), a series of new Daredevil Season 2 set photos from JustJared show Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle imposingly taking out what looks to be a mafia thug from behind. We’ve seen a few looks at Bernthal on set before though this is the first we’ve seen of the character’s particular set of skills in action, and all of Hell’s Kitchen will be running scared.

Meanwhile, a recent interview between former showrunner Steven DeKnight and SlashFilm offered a bit of insight into how we can expect the character adapted this time around, particularly with regard to a bit of the old ultra-violence:

The thing about The Punisher, and I think there are great things about each of those versions, but none of them was completely the Marvel version. And none of those movies were under the Marvel Studios banner until they recently got The Punisher back. So this is really the first time that we’re seeing the Marvel Studios from the Iron Man days, when they can control their own product, actually do this character.

The first season of Daredevil was violent but I always say it was more implied. It wasn’t nearly as violent as The Walking Dead, a show that I love. On that, if somebody were to crush somebody’s head in a car door, you would’ve seen the head crush on screen but we didn’t want to go quite that far. We wanted to keep it right around PG-16 and not go all the way to the R. I have no idea if they’re planning to push it that far next season but I would be surprised.

Elsewhere of Daredevil Season 2, we know for sure that Elodie Yung has been cast in the role of Elektra, following Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, as well that Rosario Dawson has been confirmed to reprise her role as Claire Temple. Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will take over showrunning duties from Spartacus vet Steven S. DeKnight, while recent Jason Statham / Bullseye reports listed Marvel’s Mister Fear and Spider-Man villain Mysterio as potential villains, though no confirmations have emerged.

Daredevil Season 2 remains in production on New York City streets, but how long until we spy Jon Bernthal fully decked out in the classic skull?
