On one of his earliest missions with the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy's most aquatically adept compadre has found himself in a sticky undersea situation. That's right, Abe Sapien's dealing with sunken ship terror in "the Abyssal Plain."

Written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, with interiors by Peter Snejbjerg ("B.P.R.D.: War on Frogs") and covers by Dave Johnson, the two-issue "Abe: Sapien: The Abyssal Plain" follows Abe as he uncovers the truth about a sunken soviet U-boat and the ancient relic it housed. Unfortunately for him, dead sailors seem to be telling tales.

Dark Horse Comics has provided us with a first look at the cover to the series' second issue, which features its titular hero amid a skull theme accented by soviet iconography that's been floated over from Johnson's art from the first issue. It's water, it's death, it's undersea soviet scares - it's the Abyssal Plain!
