Every month, comic publishers release their solicitation announcements to provide information to both readers and retailers on comics that are coming out in three months' time, but there's so much information dropped at once that a lot can slip through the cracks.

This month in DC's solicits, it's all about big returns, especially when it comes to villains we haven't seen for a while. Also, the return of a fan-favorite DCYou series in the unlikeliest of places, and the return of a classic Teen Titan back to confront his supervillain father!

  • Starro Conquers The DC Universe!

Starro The Conqueror is the sort of awesome and dumb villain that The New 52 shied away from, so it’s great to see it back in DC Rebirth in two different comics. Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #3 promises that “Starro strikes,” while the cover for New Super-Man #5 has the Justice League of China under the spell of Starro while the solicitation copy reads “Two words: Starro. Bomb.”

  • The Return of The Shade!

The Shade is perhaps best known as the reluctant-but-noble villain-turned-hero from James Robinson, Tony Harris and Peter Snejbjerg’s Starman, but way before that he was a villain for the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick. November sees the start of a new arc of The Flash titled “The Speed of Darkness” as The Shade travels from his beloved Opal City to Central City with mysterious and possibly malicious plans for The Flash and his new partner Kid Flash.

  • One Last Ride For 'Prez'

Prez was one of the brightest spots of DCYou, and that was a publishing initiative filled with bright spots. Though we were initially promised twelve issues, and then we were promised two separate runs of six issues, it seems the back-end has been cancelled and Beth Ross’ story is going to be wrapped up --- of all places --- in Catwoman: Election Night #1 in a twelve page story. While it may not be the end we wanted for Prez, it’s delightful to see Beth back in any form.

  • Jericho, Son of Deathstroke

A former member of the Teen Titans and the son of Deathstroke, Jericho always seemed like one of those characters that could never truly escape the '80s, no matter how hard DC tried to make him a baddie in the mid-2000s. While the character never really caught on outside his home decade, if there’s one person that could make him work it’s Christopher Priest in the pages of Deathstroke, which is quickly developing into quite the family drama.

  • The New Talent Showcase!

DC has been running a creator workshop for the past two years with the likes of Scott Snyder, Jim Lee and Klaus Janson guiding the next generation of writers and artists, and in the upcoming New Talent Showcase we can see the fruits of their labors. Featuring creators such as Christopher Sebela, Juan Ferreyra, and Joelle Jones, it seems like DC did a bang up job of coaching as they’ve all got a ton of great comics under their belt, and it’ll be fun to see what they can do in an anthology format like this.
