DC Universe Online may only have one candle to blow out on its proverbial birthday cake today, but its got more than 4.1 million registered players worldwide to help it celebrate. Since its launch a year ago today, the MMO has survived The PlayStation Network hack of 2011, transitioned to a free-to-play model and undergone numerous updates addressing what many players considered shortcomings at last year's launch (such as introducing crafting). Now, to celebrate its first birthday, DCUO will release a mission to receive a special cape to all players who have created a character by the end of January 11.From DCUO's official press release:

To celebrate the game's one-year anniversary, players will receive a special one-of-a-kind One Year Anniversary Cape that features a number "1" on the back. The cape will be granted to players through their mission journal on January 11. The character must exist on the 11th to be eligible to receive the mission. However, players do not need to log in on the 11th; as long as the character exists on the 11th, players will receive the mission the next time they log in.

It's unclear whether or not the cape offers players benefits beyond its cosmetic capabilities ("Check out this sweet #1 on my back, guys!"), but depending on how beefy the mission to receive it is, that might not be hugely important to players who just want something new to do.
