‘Deadpool’ Will Feature Much More of Colossus Than the ‘X-Men’ Films
Colossus has been a mainstay in the X-Men comic book universe since the mid-’70s, but we’ve seen so little of his character in the actual films — he’s appeared in three of the five X-Men movies, but his involvement is always so brief. That’s going to change in the Deadpool film, as actor Andre Tricoteux has revealed that we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of Colossus.
In an interview with Tech Times, the actor — who is Russian, just like his character — says this version of Colossus will be more faithful to his comic book origins, in keeping with director Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds’ mission to honor Deadpool and his universe:
The Colossus you’re going to see in Deadpool is very true to the original character in the comic book Tim Miller had a really clear vision, and the Deadpool people had a really clear vision of what they wanted. They wanted Colossus to be very traditional to the original story.
While he couldn’t say much, Tricoteux did add that they’ve kept the character’s origins “exactly” like the comics, and that he features quite prominently in the film:
I think you’re going to get to see more of who Colossus is. I think people will get a better sense of who he is. But I think there’s still a lot more to be told about him. Colossus had been around in the comics since the ‘70s, so I mean, I think you could do your own movie on him.
With Fox’s plans to expand the X-Men universe with Deadpool, Gambit and more potential sequels, it’s possible that — if Colossus proves to be a hit with fans — the big guy could get his own spinoff somewhere down the line. Daniel Cudmore played the character in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Days of Future Past, but with Tricoteux’s casting it seems as if Fox may be giving the character a reboot of sorts.
Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
