Quentin Tarantino and comic books go together like chocolate and peanut butter, and yet it's taken us until now to get the four-color equivalent of a Reese's Cup, with Django Unchained.

Announced at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the Django Unchained miniseries from Vertigo will adapt the complete screenplay to Tarantino's latest feature: a bloody Spaghetti Western set amidst the American Civil War. The book comes with gorgeously gritty artwork from R.M. Guera (Scalped) and will be the only way to see some scenes cut from the film, which comes out this Christmas. Moviefone and ComicsAlliance have an exclusive preview of the first issue showing you how Django, Jamie Foxx's vengeful freed slave who is on a path to rescue his wife, meets up with the trigger-happy bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz (played by Christoph Waltz).

The first issue of the Django comic book arrives in stores nationwide on Wednesday, December 19. Django Unchained, the movie, hits theaters on Tuesday, December 25.

Now that you've checked out Jim Lee's variant cover for issue #1 and the opening salvo, head over to Moviefone to see what happens next (hint: it involves guns).
