Savage Critic and "Reading Comics" author Douglas Wolk runs down the hottest comics and graphic novels coming out this week.

KEY

* Not comics, several times over

^ Double-pack with a photograph/Extra track and a tacky badge

% The man who wasn't there

^ % DEATH NOTE BLACK EDITION VOL. 1

A slightly oversized, $15 paperback collecting the first two volumes of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's fantastic-in-several-senses psychological thriller.

* ^ FINAL CRISIS AUDIO CD

Yes: an eight-hour dramatization of Greg Cox's novelization of Grant Morrison et al.'s billion-character miniseries. The previewmakes it sound like it should, at the very least, have some serious camp value.

% iZOMBIE #9

Chris Roberson and Michael Allred's monsters-a-go-go zombie-girl-detective comic expands its range of terror this issue to encompass miniature golf.

^ WALKING DEAD WEEKLY #1

Just in case you didn't pick up the original series, the individual trade paperbacks, the regular-sized hardcovers, the slipcased omnibuses, or the giant compendium reprinting the first 48 issues, or for that matter, the free version of this issue online or the $1 reprint, this year is going to see weekly reprints of the first 52 issues of The Walking Dead. For that print-serial buzz!

% WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? #1

Nathan Edmonson and Tonci Zonjic's five-issue miniseries is mighty graceful-looking in a Eurocomix sort of way--check out thepreview. The story seems to be some kind of John le Carré-via-"Black Swan" scenario.
