‘Face Off’ Superhero Contest Winner Appears in ‘Justice League Dark’ #16 [Preview]
Well, that was fast.
The winning character from last week's episode of the SyFy reality series Face Off, a heat-powered man named The Infernal Core, shown above with his creator, makeup artist Anthony Kosar, will appear in one of the DC Comics hitting shelves today. It's just as DC co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee promised on the show. And the book isn't Earth 2 as I predicted. It'll be Justice League Dark #16, written by Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes, with art by Mikel Janin.
From the looks of the preview pages, the Core's role is that of an otherdimensional afterlife toll-taker. He's kind of like Charon, but without the boat and with a lot more yelling and glowing.
I mentioned in my recap of Face Off last week that The Infernal Core and a good many of the rest of the contestants' entries looked more like bad guys than superheroes, even though the makeup artists were tasked with designing characters in a heroic vein. That villainous slant seems to carry through to the character's first published appearance, as the Core fights Deadman in these pages.
Whether that animosity will continue or The Infernal Core will reveal a less glowy, fiery side of himself is something readers will just have to find out if they pick Justice League Dark #16 up today at their local comic shop or digitally on ComiXology.
