The Flash may never overcome its awkward choice to turn Barry and Iris from adoptive siblings to star-crossed lovers, but if the midseason finale’s vision of the future come to pass, that may not be a problem much longer. So it is with an extended 2017 trailer for “Borrowing Problems From the Future,” as Team Flash races to alter the future by piecing together what Barry saw.

As it has for the other series, The CW dropped an extended trailer for The Flash’s January 24 return, “Borrowing Problems From the Future.” The new footage goes heavy on Barry and Iris in their new domestic bliss, but it won’t be long before Savitar’s future attack starts to dominate the conversation. Caitlin’s control over Killer Frost isn’t looking so hot either, while the full synopsis reads:

BARRY FIGHTS FOR IRIS — Barry (Grant Gustin) is tormented by his vision of the future where Iris (Candice Patton) is murdered by Savitar. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain’s presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris’ fate. Confused about Barry’s hesitation to stop Plunder, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to step in as Kid Flash. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian (Tom Felton) a job.

Elsewhere, the back half of Season 3 will begin to address Savitar’s mysterious prophecies from winter finale “The Present,” as well as take part in a two-part musical crossover with Supergirl, and spend another two episodes in the company of Gorilla Grodd. Rick Cosnett has also confirmed a mysterious return as Eddie Thawne, while the erstwhile Zoom will be menacing speedsters across the board.

We’ll see what becomes of Iris next week, but might The Flash be powerless to save the future?
