The Flash has a habit of arriving at classic characters in roundabout ways, whether Reverse Flash or the real Jay Garrick, but Season 2's sly introduction of the Black Flash may not bear fruit just yet. Producers have no immediate plans to return the character for Season 3, even as Barry has yet another demonic speedster on his plate.

You’re warned of full Season 2 spoilers from here on out, but where Season 2 modified the comic Zoom’s costume to look more like that of DC’s Black Flash, avatar of Death for speedsters, the homage paid off in full by the finale. “Time Wraiths” finally caught up with Hunter Zolomon, dragging him off into the Speed Force with a decay that warped his Zoom appearance into the classic Black Flash.

That certainly seems like a setup for Season 3, though Entertainment Weekly reports from EP Andrew Kreisberg that they’ve yet to find a use for Black Flash in the immediate episodes:

Obviously we did that on purpose. We love working with Teddy [Sears]. He’s such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. There aren’t any immediate plans for that, but you can’t keep a good Black Flash down, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing him in the future.

We’ll have more on Season 3 of The Flash soon, but take a look at the footage below, and stay tuned for the October 4 premiere!
