I know we've all been waiting very patiently, but the day is finally upon us. Comics based on James Cameron's Avatar are finally coming next year on Free Comic Book Day! The comic book adaptation of the smash-hit blockbuster that everyone loves and remembers is just one of twelve Gold Titles as part of FCBD's 2017 celebration, which also includes Rick & Morty, Doctor Who and X-O Manowar.

Announced today, Free Comic Book Day 2017 will be celebrated across the world on May 6, and as usual the big name publishers, including Image, IDW, Boom, Oni and Titan, all have offerings as part of next year's crop of Gold Sponsor titles.

Dark Horse first announced Avatar comics back in 2015 at New York Comic Con, and next year the world of Pandora comes to comics in a story by Sherri Smith and Doug Wheatley. The free comic, appropriately titled Briggs Land/James Cameron's Avatar FCBD 2017 Edition also features a Briggs Land story by Brian Wood and Werther Dell'Edera which sees Grace Briggs run afoul of a local militia.

In recent years, Marvel and DC have both gone all out in their Free Comic Book Day efforts --- and their titles often hint at big things for the futures of their respective shared universes --- so it's no surprise that the publishers' offerings are listed as "secret" for now. While DC's gives us no information as to what it might be, Marvel's Gold Title will be something to do with Spider-Man, possibly hinting at a major event to follow current story The Clone Conspiracy.
