We were totally ready to believe a teaser from IDW Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall's blog a few month's back, but fans will still appreciate the publisher's official press release announcing that a new Ghostbusters ongoing comic book series will debut in September.

The team of writer Erik Burham (Ghostbusters: Infestation), artist Dan Schoeing (Ghostbusters: What in Samhain Just Happened) and cover artist Nick Runge are set to serialize the team's adventures as they respond to a new wave of paranormal activity in New York City and beyond. Tristan Jones (Tales of the TMNT) will provide bonus content for each 32-page issue.

Variant covers aren't typically my kind of deal, but IDW's announcement that Ghostbusters #1 will feature a special "Who Ya Gonna call" glow-in-the-dark cover by Schoeing is the kind of gimmick I can get behind as long as I don't have to pay extra. Perhaps a version of Slimer will surface for the occasion? This comic draws from the GB film continuity rather than the animated The Real Ghostbusters series, but a dude can dare to dream, right? From IDW's official press release:

"My dream since I took over the editorial duties on IDW's Ghostbusters comics license was to bring the boys in proton packs to monthly comics," said series editor Tom Waltz. "We've had fantastic Ghostbusters one-shots and mini-series up to this point, but the incredible success of Ghostbusters: Infestation has proven that Ghostbusters fans, old and new alike, are still very hungry for ghostbusting tales. With the awesome creative team we've gathered to make it happen, the best is yet to come!
