Alice in Wonderland references throughout Gotham Season 2 tipped off that the Mad Hatter might be on his way, and it seems our star took a slight detour through The Walking Dead. Fresh out of the Wolves, Benedict Samuel joins Gotham Season 3 as its iteration of Jervis Tetch, the villain underneath the Mad Hatter’s signature look.

Per TVLine, Samuel’s version of the maddened Batman villain will join Season 3 as “a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago. It is anyone’s guess just how far down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go in order to find her.”

Elsewhere, Season 3 will also introduce us to Gotham’s take on Mad Hatter associates the Tweedle brothers, the Court of Owls, Maggie Geha’s questionably aged-up Poison Ivy, Jamie Chung’s Valerie Vale, a returning Fish Mooney and other monsters, along with a more true-to-comics Solomon Grundy than Arrow offered. Lest we forget, a certain laughing madman made a distinctly audible return in the Season 2 finale, and will likely resurface as well.

We’ll learn more of Gotham Season 3 in the coming months, including at Comic-Con 2016 this week, but what other Bat-characters might Gotham introduce in the next run?
