We're very quickly heading into a golden age of comic book television adaptations, not only with superhero shows such as Iron Fist (teased at a panel on Thursday) and Defenders (likewise), but with hit adaptations of indie properties like The Walking Dead and Preacher. Production companies are quickly learning that indie comics are a rich vein of longform storytelling just waiting to be tapped, and there's now a scramble to find the next hit.

Following on from the announcement that Rick Remender and Wes Craig's Deadly Class was heading to TV under Joe and Anthony Russo, another fan-favorite Image Comics series is heading to TV; Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott's Black Magick.

Announced on Thursday via The Hollywood Reporter, Black Magick has been picked up by Michael London's Groundswell Productions, which aims to produce the property as an hour long cable or streaming drama.

The comic follows Rowan Black, a robbery-homicide detective who comes from a long-line of witches. While she has endeavored to keep the two aspects of her life separate, the strange goings on in her hometown of Portsmouth force her hand, and she must combine her magical ability with her detective know-how to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Black Magick isn't the only Greg Rucka project being adapted for live-action, as Lazarus is also in production, and Fox is working on a Queen & Country film with Ellen Page attached to star. Black Magick is currently on hiatus while Rucka and Scott work on DC's Wonder Woman title.
