"Hack/Slash" has been taking the scenic route in terms of making the jump from comics to the big screen since it was originally announced back in 2006, but Halo-8 Entertainment has a little somethin'-somethin' to tide fans over during the delay -- a sneak-peek at an all-new illustrated film courtesy of MTV.

MTV Splash Page has the first look at the project -- produced by Halo-8 and adapted and directed by filmmaker Matt Pizzolo (the award-winning producer of "GodKiller," also by Halo-8) -- based on the the "My First Maniac" storyline from creator Tim Seely's horror series. According to the source, Halo-8 plans to release the illustrated film ("not a motion comic," it was stressed) on DVD in 2011 alongside previously announced projects such as "Black Sky" (created by Ben Templesmith) and another Seely project, "Loaded Bible."

As far as the live-action "Hack/Slash" flick, there's apparently been little movement since last November, when "The Grudge" writer Stephen Susco had stepped in for Fredrik Bond to take on the script. Yet despite being in development limbo, Seely seemed pretty excited about the illustrated films Halo-8 has planned.

"I'm happy to have my two babies in the same crib, with a unique 'Hack/Slash' and 'Loaded Bible' double feature," said Seeley. "Viewers can get their horror and sacrilege in the same lovin' spoonful."
