Anyone sitting in the Captain America: Civil War theater had at least some pang of discomfort at Steve embracing a flirtation with Sharon Carter, great niece to his one true love, the late Peggy Carter. Even Agent Carter herself, Hayley Atwell has weighed in, but now might go full supervillain to curb the new pairing. “You can’t tap that!”, Atwell said at Dallas Comic-Con over the weekend.

Where previously the erstwhile (and perhaps future!) Agent Carter star expressed a flat “no” to Captain America: Civil War placing together Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), IGN recorded Atwell going far more in depth with Peggy’s aversion to the relationship at a Dallas Comic-Con panel. Apparently, even Peggy’s passing may not stop the character from returning full supervillain to curb Sharon’s “incestuous” enthusiasm:

Well, first of all [Peggy]‘d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like ‘no.’ And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well.

I just feel that, you know - I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, ‘don’t touch that.’ You can’t tap that!

Atwell even touched on the controversial comic twist calling Cap’s allegiance into question:

She’d want the best for her and she’d want her dating a good guy. And now with this whole ‘Hail Hydra” business, I don’t know if Steve’s good enough for her. So on all levels, it’s just a big fat no.

One wonders if and when Cap and Sharon’s relationship would even have time to flourish anyway, given their respective fugitive status at the film’s end, and the looming Infinity War. There’s every chance that we’ll see Peggy Carter again in one form or another, but can the MCU handle zombie supervillain Agent Carter?
