Marvel’s The Inhumans TV series made clear at the moment of its announcement that the new IMAX-shot story wouldn’t use Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a basis for spinoff, though it remains an open question if the two series might share any mythology in common. At the very least, we know the new Marvel series won’t utilize the same VFX as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., perhaps creating a different look.

Where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been introducing Inhuman characters since Season 2, visual effects supervisor Mark Kolpack confirmed over Twitter (h/t ComicBook) that his work wouldn’t necessarily feature into the new Inhumans series:

Granted, one might take that as a sign Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will continue to need its VFX head through Season 4 (and potentially Season 5); it’s also worth noting that The Inhumans will expand considerably beyond the TV range. Not only will its first two episodes be shot in IMAX, reports have indicated that additional action scenes will take place on the moon, one-time home to the Inhuman city of Attilan.

For the moment, few other details of The Inhumans are known, other than a September IMAX release for the first two hours, and subsequent move of the remaining six episodes to ABC. No casting has yet taken place (certainly not for Vin Diesel), nor has Marvel clarified what, if any relationship The Inhumans will have to other MCU TV series, or the still-possible Inhumans film.

It’s understandable of The Inhumans to want its own visual palette, but will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have any influence on the new series? In the meantime, what other Marvel-ous details should we expect when The Inhumans hits theaters in 2017?
