We’ve been hearing for some time now that Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine for cameo appearances in both Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse — because how can you have an X-Men movie without Wolverine? The actor has appeared in every X-Men film to date, so it makes sense. Jackman himself has finally addressed the rumors, but don’t expect a straightforward answer.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Jackman was asked if he’d be making a cameo in Deadpool, to which he gave a very sly non-answer:

Hmmm, I can’t … no. Nope. But, I am really good mates with [Ryan Reynolds] so …

The actor previously revealed that he would be open to the idea, and we do know that Deadpool will be having a bit of fun at the expense of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (obviously). The article also notes that Jackman went on to mumble under his breath and smile a bit, so make of that what you will.

As for X-Men: Apocalypse, which focuses on the younger generation, Jackman was similarly tight-lipped, offering, “Who knows?” We do know that neither Patrick Stewart nor Ian McKellen will be making an appearance in the film, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Fox will keep their most famous X-Men member off the table.

Jackman will be making his final appearance as Wolverine in The Wolverine 2, which will mark his eighth time playing the character on-screen — if he appears in both Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse, that would take the number to a nice, round 10.

Deadpool arrives on February 12, 2016, followed by X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016 and the untitled Wolverine sequel on March 3, 2017.
