‘Guardians’ Director James Gunn Doubts Any Marvel TV Crossovers

If any Marvel movie director had a take on long-awaited crossovers, it’d be Guardians of the Galaxy boss James Gunn. The Vol. 2 director is only now preparing to share his interstellar heroes with The Avengers, but even Gunn doubts we’ll see the other Earth-based TV heroes taking part in the great Infinity War.

Take this with a grain of salt for the moment, as however blunt Gunn tends to be with teasing Marvel futures, a final decision to include Marvel’s TV heroes in the movies wouldn’t rest with the Guardians of the Galaxy. That said, from the position of someone in the know, Gunn was less than hopeful to see either Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or The Defenders taking up the fight on the silver screen:

what do you think about the defenders on infinity wars? it's going to happen? do you wish to see them in the big screen?

I don't think we're going to see much interactions between the Marvel TV universe and the MCU in the near future.

Granted, this is far from the first time we’ve heard Marvel movie and TV forces on the difficulty of crossover, as TV boss Jeph Loeb recently reminded:

I can tell you that part of the challenge of doing this sort of thing is that the movies are planned out years in advance of what it is that we are doing. Television moves at an incredible speed. The other part of the problem is that when you stop and think about it, if I’m shooting a television series and that’s going to go on over a six-month or eight-month period, how am I going to get Mike [Colter] to be able to go be in a movie? I need Mike to be in a television show.

That gels plenty with reports of (what was once) Infinity War shooting later this year, about the time Marvel’s Netflix Defenders will be staging team-ups of their own for a major crossover event.

It would seem unlikely of any Marvel TV series to avoid fallout from the next movie phase, but how long until The Avengers finally return the favor?
