On his website, Jesse Riggle explains, "I paint lumpy people." His subjects come from movies, TV and video games, and he finds every possible line and crevice on each character's face, so that even the animated teens of The Venture Bros. and the occasional Pokemon is made fleshy and worn. But these exaggerations, these deep wrinkles and focused stares are rooted firmly in each character's persona. He amps up the wide-eyed humor of Steve Martin, the determined world-weariness of Walter White and the dissatisfaction of Tobias Fünke with a marvelous combination of facial construction and light.
You can follow Riggle's latest projects on his blog. He's a regular contributor to the wonderfully geeky Gallery 1988 shows, but his distinctive style bleeds through on every one of the gallery's themed art challenges.
